Discover Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge in a whole new light – or rather, under the mesmerizing darkness of the new moon! Join us for a guided Night Hike through the refuge, where you’ll witness the enchantment of the nocturnal world and explore the cosmos through a telescope.

Under the veil of darkness, we’ll embark on a journey to uncover the habitats of creatures that thrive after sunset. From the elusive owls and nimble raccoons to the curious opossums, you’ll have the opportunity to witness the wonders of the “night shift” as they awaken and go about their nightly activities.

Led by our educators, this approximately 1-mile hike will take you on a captivating adventure through the refuge’s moonlit trails. Along the way, you’ll learn captivating facts about the nocturnal animals that call Cedar Run home and gain insight into their behaviors and adaptations for life in the dark.

But the adventure doesn’t end there! At select points along the hike, we’ll pause to gaze at the stars and planets through a telescope. Our educators will help you navigate the night sky, pointing out constellations, planets, and other celestial wonders that shine brightly against the backdrop of the new moon.

Whether you’re a seasoned nature enthusiast or simply intrigued by the mysteries of the night, our New Moon Night Hike and Stargazing event offers a unique opportunity to connect with the natural world and the cosmos in a whole new way.
